Mr Mark Mullins is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Sancta Maria Hospital, Swansea. He is a native of Swansea and has been a consultant since 2006, having trained at Cambridge University, St Mary’s Hospital, London and at the prestigious Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. He has performed over 4,000 hip and knee replacements across his consultant career.

The OPS System: Precision Hip Replacement
Mr Mullins is a member of the lead group of UK surgeons using the Optimised Positioning System (OPS) for hip replacement. This technique uses dynamic X-ray imaging to place hip components in the position with the lowest possible risk of dislocation and the maximum functional benefit for each individual patient. He has also worked on customised knee replacement techniques in collaboration with Biomet, based in Bridgend.
Training and Fellowship
Mr Mullins completed his medical training at Cambridge University and St Mary’s Hospital, London, before training on the London orthopaedic circuit including positions at The Royal London Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. He completed a prestigious year’s fellowship with world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon Professor Thierry Judet at Hôpital Raymond Poincaré in Paris, a formative international experience under one of the field’s most respected figures, before returning to Swansea as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2006.
Research and Teaching
Mr Mullins has published extensively in the international orthopaedic literature on joint replacement and related topics, and is an independent reviewer for orthopaedic journals. He is a faculty member for national and international joint replacement courses.
Medicolegal Practice
