Mr Jonathan Cubitt is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgeon at Sancta Maria Hospital, Swansea, with an NHS practice at the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery, Morriston Hospital. The RCS TIG Cosmetic Fellowship is one of the most competitive fellowship programmes offered by the Royal College of Surgeons and is awarded to only a small number of surgeons each year.
Innovation in Clinical Practice
Mr Cubitt was part of the team at the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery that pioneered a new local anaesthetic technique for melanoma and sentinel lymph node surgery, allowing complex skin cancer operations to continue safely during the COVID-19 pandemic when general anaesthetic restrictions were in place. The technique has since been adopted more broadly.
Research and Teaching
Mr Cubitt has co-authored around 50 peer-reviewed publications and has presented at multiple national and international conferences. His published research includes work on surgical excision margins for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma outcomes, and breast reconstruction with deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flaps.
He is a member of the Welsh Deanery Plastic Surgery Surgical Training Committee and teaches medical students from both Swansea University and Cardiff University Medical School.
