Mr Amar Ghattaura
MB BS MRCS FRCS(Plast)
Consultant Plastic, Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgeon
Mr Amar Ghattaura is a Consultant Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Sancta Maria Hospital, Swansea, with over 27 years of experience in plastic and aesthetic surgery. Trained at some of the world’s most respected plastic surgery centres, he brings a level of surgical expertise to private practice in Wales that is genuinely rare in the region.
He is one of a very small number of surgeons in Wales offering private microsurgical breast reconstruction following breast cancer treatment, including DIEP flap surgery. He is also one of very few surgeons in the UK who has undertaken a second degree in Psychology, which underpins his deeply patient-centred approach to care.

Why Choose Mr Ghattaura?
Mr Ghattaura trained at some of the UK’s most prestigious plastic surgery centres, including the Royal Marsden Hospital, Great Ormond Street, the Oxford Radcliffe Infirmary and Harley Street, as well as the University Hospital Ghent in Belgium, an international centre of excellence for breast surgery and microsurgery. He has been trained by world leaders in breast and cosmetic surgery and has adapted many of those techniques into his own practice.
He undertook a second degree in Psychology specifically to better support patients through their surgical journey, giving him a deeper understanding of the emotional and psychological dimensions of aesthetic surgery than most surgeons possess. He has also published research in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and the American Journal of Surgery, and has written book chapters on breast reconstruction used by surgeons internationally.
NHS Practice
In his NHS practice at the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery, Morriston Hospital, Mr Ghattaura helped develop the All-Wales Lymphoedema Surgery Service in 2015 and is Clinical Lead for microsurgical services and supermicrosurgery.
