Mr Richard Karoo FRCS(Plast.) is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon who consults in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. Richard brings extensive cosmetic surgery experience gained both in the United Kingdom and abroad to his patients in South Wales leading private clinics and private hospitals.
Richard’s areas of interest include surgical facial rejuvenation (Face Lift, Blepharoplasty, Endoscopic Browlift, Rhinoplasty) & non-surgical facial procedures. His expertise also includes cosmetic breast surgery, Breast Augmentation (breast enlargement), Breast Uplift, Breast Reduction and body contouring procedures, including Liposuction and Abdominoplasty.
In Mr Richard Karoo’s NHS Practice he was the Clinical Lead for Plastic Reconstructive Head and Neck Surgery at the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery. In addition to his aesthetic practice, performed a wide range of reconstructive microsurgical plastic surgery operations and involved with the Cardiff skin cancer treatment team. His practice is now fully private in nature but still maintains clinical and teaching links to the NHS.
Having trained extensively in the United Kingdom and Australia, Richard’s core specialist registrar training was based in Leeds. He secured the International Microsurgical Fellowship at The Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia, then the Reconstructive Breast Surgery fellowship at St Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery in Chelmsford.
To complement his experience, Richard completed his Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship at the world-renowned London Clinic, Harley Street, London. This prestigious appointment equipped Mr Karoo with the surgical skills and know-how to confidently deal with those patients seeking the highest quality of care for their cosmetic surgery procedure.
Richard undertook his scientific research at the Plastic Surgery & Burns Research Unit, Bradford, UK, investigating wound healing models for the production of biological Skin Substitutes. He has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, presented at multiple national and international meetings and been an invited speaker and chairperson for multiple national and international meetings.
Richard has also been twice awarded the John Barron Prize by the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons firstly for his work on Breast Reconstruction using new techniques brought over from Europe. Then more recently on the use of Electrochemotherapy for cutaneous tumours.
