Prof Julian Halcox is Professor of Cardiology in the college of medicine at Swansea University and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the Singleton and Morriston Hospitals in Swansea. He was previously Professor of Cardiology in Cardiff University and before that he was a British Heart Foundation Senior Lecturer at University College London where he also worked as a Consultant Cardiologist at the Heart Hospital and in Harley Street. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, he trained in cardiology at St Bartholomew’s, the London Chest and University College London hospitals, also spending 3 years as a visiting scientist in The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute in the USA.
He is an international opinion leader in the field of preventative cardiovascular medicine and is an active member of several academic societies including the Welsh Cardiovascular Society and the European Society of Cardiology. He runs an active research programme focusing on cardiovascular disease prevention in Swansea University Medical School. He is Cardiovascular Lead for Health Data Research UK’s Centre in Swansea University. He has been involved in the development of several national and international guidelines for the investigation and treatment of patients with and at risk of coronary artery disease and recently led a major multidisciplinary review of cardiovascular disease prevention strategy in Wales.
He is happy to see people with any concerns about their heart and circulation including common symptoms of chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, alteration of consciousness and fatigue as well as advising on cardiovascular risk assessment and long term risk management.
