Dr Alex Powles is a Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in uro-radiology and radionuclide imaging. He was appointed to a Consultant post in Swansea Bay UHB in 2021 and works across Morriston, Singleton and NEath Port Talbot Hospitals, holding an ARSAC practitioner licence for imaging, non-imaging and research. He sits on the Welsh Government All Wales PET Advisory Board and has an honorary contract with WHSSC as a Specialist Adviser for PET-CT. Dr Powles’ uro-radiology expertise encompasses multi-parametric MRI of the prostate, ultrasound-guided prostate biopsies, and he is the joint radiology lead for the Swansea Bay Urology Multi-Disciplinary Team meeting.
Dr Powles graduated from Oxford University with a BA (Hons) first class degree in medical sciences and BM BCh medical degree, worked in the Severn Deanery as a junior doctor and undertook his specialist training in the South Wales Radiology training scheme. He is currently engaged in a reserch project funded by Prostate Cymru looking at novel ways of imaging patients with prostate cancer.
