Mr Yeung Ng is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Sancta Maria Hospital, Swansea, with an NHS practice at Hywel Dda University Health Board. He has been a consultant since 2013 and has introduced several advanced urological techniques to NHS Wales, including the first Welsh Fusion Targeted Prostate Biopsy service. Innovation in NHS Wales
Mr Ng has introduced several advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques to NHS Wales during his time at Hywel Dda University Health Board. He established the first Welsh Fusion Targeted Prostate Biopsy service, improving accuracy in prostate cancer detection, and introduced multi-parametric prostate MRI and Greenlight laser vaporisation for benign prostate enlargement. His work on accelerating prostate cancer diagnosis was recognised with the NHS Wales Award for Efficient Care in 2024.
Training and Background
Mr Ng qualified from Glasgow University in 1998 with dual degrees in Medicine and Medical Biochemistry. He went on to complete a research doctorate (MD) in Surgical Technology at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, under the tutelage of Sir Alfred Cuschieri, one of the pioneers of laparoscopic surgery. He completed basic surgical training and higher urological training in Scotland before his consultant appointment in South Wales in 2013.
Research and Clinical Trials
Mr Ng is a Principal Investigator for the ARAMIS and PRONOUNCE prostate cancer clinical trials, and has 16 peer-reviewed publications with over 225 academic citations, rooted in his early research in surgical technology and laparoscopic instrumentation. He holds medicines safety roles within Hywel Dda University Health Board and contributes to national panels planning urological care across Wales.
Community and Charity
Mr Ng has raised over £100,000 for the Hywel Dda Urology Fund through charitable donations and community fundraising, funding state-of-the-art equipment and new treatments for patients in West Wales.
