Mr Madhav Kittur is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Sancta Maria Hospital, Swansea, and is dually registered with both the General Medical Council and the General Dental Council. He is Clinical Lead for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Morriston Hospital, Swansea Bay University Health Board, and a core member of the South West Wales Head and Neck Cancer MDT. Mr Kittur offers private consultations and surgical treatment across the full range of oral and maxillofacial conditions at Sancta Maria Hospital. His cancer practice covers oral cancer, skin cancer of the head and neck, and complex head and neck reconstruction using microvascular free flap techniques. He treats salivary gland disease, manages facial pain and temporomandibular joint disorders, and offers assessment and treatment for oral medicine conditions. He also performs wisdom tooth extraction, removal of benign cysts and tumours of the oral cavity, and manages maxillofacial trauma.
Head and Neck Cancer and Reconstruction
Mr Kittur has a particular interest in oral cancer surgery and microvascular reconstruction of the head and neck, and is a core member of the South West Wales Head and Neck Cancer MDT. His reconstructive work includes customised fibular cradle plate reconstruction for mandibular defects, and craniofacial prosthetics including implant-retained ear, nasal and orbital prostheses for patients with facial defects following cancer surgery. He has published research on the Morriston experience of craniofacial prosthetic rehabilitation and the use of intraoral scanners for immediate nasal prosthesis construction following rhinectomy.
Training and Fellowships
Mr Kittur completed his dental qualifications (BDS and MDS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) in India before undertaking his basic medical qualification at Cardiff University. He completed basic surgical and specialist OMFS training in South Wales, an Interface Fellowship in the Therapeutic Use of Lasers, and an Advanced Head and Neck Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction Fellowship at the 9th People’s Hospital, Shanghai, one of China’s foremost head and neck cancer centres. He has also completed the Global Online Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology awarded by the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncological Societies.
Research and Teaching
Mr Kittur is the author and co-author of numerous publications in specialist journals, with research covering oral cancer diagnosis, microvascular reconstruction, customised implant techniques and craniofacial prosthetics. He presents regularly at national and international meetings and is actively involved in teaching medical and dental practitioners and trainees in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
