Mr Heikki Whittet is a Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist – Head & Neck Surgeon (ENT) and Surgical Rhinologist. He qualified at King’s College Hospital, London and underwent his ENT training at Royal National Throat Nose & Ear Hospital, London, Hospital for Sick Children Great Ormond Street, and higher ENT surgical training in Oxford.
He has been an NHS Consultant in Swansea since 1994. Apart from general ENT work he has developed a specialised practice in the medical and surgical management of complex sinus and nasal conditions (allergic and non-allergic rhinitis and sinusitis) using standard endoscopic (FESS) and more complex techniques as well as balloon sinuplasty and new cryosurgical methods for chronic rhinitis treatment (Clarifix) where indicated, attracting referrals from across Wales. He works closely with allied medical specialties to comprehensively assess and manage tear duct obstruction by endoscopic surgery (DCR) and also has a specialised interest in the surgical assessment and management of sleep related breathing disorders (snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea) where this is applicable.
He has an interest in innovative and clinically applicable research and training of surgical trainees. He has been President of the British Association of Clinical Anatomists, Welsh representative to the British Rhinological Society, ENT UK and other National committees as well as serving as Clinical Lead to his local department. He is currently President of ENT Wales, a body representing ENT surgeons in Wales.
