Professor Keir Lewis graduated with Honours from Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals and completed specialist training at The Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospital before returning home to Wales to specialise in Respiratory Medicine. He became a Consultant in 2003 and currently combines research and teaching at Swansea University with NHS duties at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.
In 2017, he was appointed Professor and is the Clinical Lead for Respiratory Medicine across the four hospitals within Hywel Dda University Health Board.
For a decade, he served as an NHS R&D Director and has advised national societies, research funders such a MRC and Welcome, and Welsh and UK Governments on chronic lung disease and smoking cessation. He has authored 4 textbooks, over 150 journal papers, and has been the lead or co-applicant on research grants totalling over £25 million across Wales, the UK, and Europe.
Keir is a member of the British Thoracic and European Respiratory Societies, contributing to various Respiratory Guidelines and is President of the Welsh Thoracic Society.
