Professor Keir Lewis is a specialist Respiratory Consultant renowned for his compassionate and patient-focused approach. Professor Lewis oversees specialist clinics in three NHS hospitals and private clinics, including Sancta Maria Hospital. Patients travel from Bridgend, Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Powys, and Ceredigion to seek his expertise.
Professor Lewis has been an NHS Consultant since 2003, primarily based at Prince Philip Hospital and was appointed a Full-Professor at Swansea University in 2017.
Professor Lewis can see patients directly who are self-paying or using insurance. Patients do not need a referral from another specialist or GP.

With over 25 years of training and experience, Professor Lewis has helped several thousand people as inpatients and through many clinics- ranging from simple tests to highly complex procedures and lung interventions.
Education, Training and Awards
Professor Lewis’s journey in medicine started at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London, where he obtained his 1st Class Degree in Psychology then with double honours MBBS. He completed his junior doctor training and MRCP examinations whilst working in St Barts and The Royal London Hospitals, before completing senior specialist training residencies in respiratory medicine at major hospitals across South Wales. Further research led to his MD qualification in Sleep Apnoea at Cardiff University and Fellowship of the Royal College London (FRCP).
Professor Lewis is passionate about medical education. He plays a key role in training the next generation of doctors by lecturing (and bedside teaching) of Swansea and Cardiff medical students, he organised the respiratory specialist training week, and serving as an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians. His expertise has led him to be invited to deliver lectures around the world, from the U.S. to Europe, the Middle East, and South Korea. Notably, he is one of only three doctors in Wales to have earned the title of Senior Fellow of the Health Education Academy.
Professor Lewis’s dedication to excellence is reflected in numerous awards and honours. He currently serves as President of The Welsh Thoracic Society and has received the Outstanding Achievement in Medicine award from the South Wales Argus.
He is also the only consultant in Hywel Dda and the only Respiratory specialist in Wales to hold the highest N3 National Clinical Impact Award.
Research and Publications
Since the 1990’s, Professor Lewis has published more than 190 journal articles, over 300 abstracts and 4 textbooks. He has been the leading or co-applicant on grants worth over £27M. He has been a Journal Editor and reviews articles for others including BMJ and The Lancet. He advises content for the British and European Respiratory Society Conferences and scores grant applications for major funders including HTA, Welcome Foundation, MRC and Tenovus.
He has advised Welsh and Westminster Governments on Smoking and Vaping and more recently their COVID enquiries. Recent papers also include acute and Long Covid and state-of-the-art smoking cessation treatments.
