Dr Saad Al-Ismail has been the Senior Consultant Haematologist in Swansea for 36 years. He developed comprehensive clinical and laboratory haematology services in the area, including management of different blood cancers, bone marrow transplantation and establishing a Haemophilia Centre in Swansea. He recently retired from NHS services but continues to provide clinical haematology services in the fields of haematological cancers as well as thrombosis and haemostasis. He has over 50 scientific publications.

Dr Saad Al-Ismail has been at the forefront of health care provision in the Principality and, until his retirement, was the Chair of New Medicine Group of the All Wales Medicine Strategy Group; Co- Chair of the Cancer Commissioning Group –Swansea Bay University Health Board; Chair of the Thrombosis and Anticoagulation Committee at Swansea Bay University Health Board; Director of Swansea Haemophilia Centre; MDT and Bone Marrow Transplant Lead Consultant Haematologist in Swansea Bay University Health Board; Senior Clinical Tutor in The School of Medicine- Swansea University; Principle Clinical Investigator in Haematology in Swansea Bay University Health Board. In addition, he was the Medical Director and lead cancer clinician for South West Wales cancer Network (2000-2011).
