Dr Akhila Mallipedhi has specialised in diabetes and endocrinology since 2015 and has extensive experience in that field, as well as in General Medicine. Her special interests include weight management, and diabetes technology. She is the the lead clinician for the weight management service in Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Dr Mallipedhi qualified in India in 2004. She became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2009 and has been a Fellow of the College since 2016. She attained a doctorate in medicine (MD research) degree from Swansea University in 2015, which involved working closely with weight management services and the Welsh Institute of Obesity and Metabolic surgery.

Her academic and research activity include publication of more than twenty peer reviewed papers and Honorary Lectureship in Swansea University. She has been a Consultant Diabetologist in Hywel Dda Health Board since 2015.

She aims to provide an evidence based, person-centred and compassion- focused, needs-led service to support individuals in weight management clinics with obesity and other medical co-morbidities, to manage their weight in the long term. She is also committed to prescribe weight-loss medications in a responsible manner to ensure safe and long –term sustained outcomes.
