Training and Background

Dr Mikhail completed his renal training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London, before taking up his NHS consultant post in Wales in 2002. He completed a postgraduate MD degree in Renal Medicine from the University of London in 2010. His qualifications span clinical medicine, research and management: MBBCh, MSc, MD, FRCP and MBA.

Research, Clinical Trials and Guidelines

Dr Mikhail has been involved in several multicentre clinical trials investigating innovative therapies for patients with high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease and those on dialysis. He has contributed to clinical guideline development both nationally and internationally, including as a named author on the UK Kidney Association Clinical Practice Guidelines on Anaemia of Chronic Kidney Disease, published in 2017 and updated in 2024, one of the key reference documents for nephrologists across the UK.

Academic Role

Dr Mikhail is a Senior Clinical Tutor at Swansea University, contributing to the education and training of the next generation of doctors in Wales.
