SA1 Hospital Update – May 2020
Our new hospital is continuing to take shape in SA1 despite the current coronavirus pandemic.
Our contractors, Kier have put safety measures in place and continue to follow Government guidelines and comply with the Construction Leadership Council’s Site Operating Procedures, to allow them to continue working through this period.
Our new hospital is continuing to take shape in SA1 despite the current coronavirus pandemic.
There have been some key developments on site over the last couple of months. The basement, which is now largely complete, will be an undercover car park with lift access to the main reception area.
A ramp leads up to the ground floor of the hospital where there will be disabled parking spaces for easy access to the entrance. There is also a pedestrian entrance from Fabian Way that leads directly to the main reception area. Within the hospital, the ground floor will be home to an open plan waiting area, servery and kitchen, offices for the hospital’s administrative team, and a number of spacious, private consulting rooms as well as the new on-site MRI and digital X Ray machines.
The first floor of the hospital, which can be accessed by stairs and lifts, will be home to three state of the art theatres. All patient bedrooms are en-suite and have large windows and high ceilings. The high level electrics, ventilation and plumbing are progressing and will be completed in the coming weeks. All of the windows throughout the building have been installed with the exception of the MRI suite to allow it to make its way into the building in July.
Work on the ground floor will progress in June with flooring being laid in the kitchen and servery areas as well as the offices. In the coming months, the scaffolding will be removed to reveal the building’s exterior to those passing on Fabian Way and Langdon Road.
Clearly the coronavirus pandemic has caused some delays to the overall timeline. The new ways of working adapted by Kier means that works continue safely and that our hospital continues to near completion.
We will continue to provide further updates in the coming weeks and months as we prepare to open the new hospital.
